Henry Mackay 1891-1918, a photo by ccgd on Flickr.

It's the sadness and resignation on poor Hendry's face that brings home WW1 to all of us. Taken in 1917, just before he joined the 2nd Batt, Seaforth Highlanders. Hendry Mackay must have known that he was not going to come home to Coldbackie.

He was killed on the 28th March 1918, and has no known grave.

In Memory of Private HENRY MACKAY

S/23248, 2nd Bn., Seaforth Highlanders who died age 27 on 28 March 1918
Son of Mrs. Christina Mackay, of Lower Coldbackie, Tongue, Lairg, Sutherland.

Remembered with honour
