In the final approach to Glasgow Airport a fortnight ago, looking north over a mist covered Drymen and Loch Lomond, just at sunset.
It's the sadness and resignation on poor Hendry's face that brings home WW1 to all of us. Taken in 1917, just before he joined the 2nd Batt, Seaforth Highlanders. Hendry Mackay must have known that he was not going to come home to Coldbackie.
He was killed on the 28th March 1918, and has no known grave.
