I've been in Northern Finland for most of the past week. This squat little chap (who looks like Uncle Joe Stalin from the back) is the "mascot" of the city of Oulu.
I must investigate further........

Not really an official mascot, the Toripolliisi (Marketplace Policeman) is a statue dedicated to the fond memory of one policeman who patrolled the place a century ago. I seem to recall a story about the legendary copper saying: "Herra on hyvä ja hajaantuu." ("Could you please disperse, sir.")
Very good pictures, by the way. I stumbled upon them via the Oulu tag in Flickr. Ta -
